Mrs. Wishy Washy Text Innovation

We read the story Mrs. Wishy Washy by Joy Cowley several times, acted it out and then retold it using Draw 4 Free and Voice Thread.  We are fortunate to have four iPads in our classroom so our students took turns drawing and we helped them to record their voices.  This project was so fun to work on because the students became confident in drawing pictures individually, saving them and then working together cooperatively for the group drawings.  We played our final product on the Smart Board for all the families at Open House.

Collage Mousepad from Costco Photo Center

Every year we are so fortunate to have the best parent volunteers.  They cut, staple, stuff, organize, clean, sort and that is only half of what they do.  We like to let them know how much we appreciate their help and wish we could get them a huge gift.   However,  it is difficult because we always have so many helpers we don't want to break the bank.  This year we discovered collage mousepads at Costco.com.  They are $3.99 each plus shipping and handling.  The quality is terrific and they are a great memory of a special year.  We wanted to add a cute themed tag so we made a mouse head with a note that says... "Thank You For Being A Mouse-tastic Parent Volunteer!"

Penny Piggy Banks

This is a cute idea we found on Pinterest and adapted.
Students brought to school 16oz. empty water bottles. They painted the bottles with a special mixture of hot pink & light pink acrylic paint. The paint was mixed with glue to prevent it from flaking off the plastic bottles. Once the paint was dry, we added clear push pins to the bottom of the bottles to help them stand (add a dab of glue to the pins before you insert them into the bottles). The students cut and added their own ears, tail and eyes.

While the piggies were drying, students counted pennies they brought from home. They put their pennies in groups of five and counted by fives to find out their total amount. This was recorded onto a pink piece of paper by writing the total amount as well as making tally marks to represent the amount. The paper was then rolled up and inserted in the bottle to become the snout of the piggy!

Super Daddy!

Here is our take on Super Daddy!
After the kids are finished writing 5 reasons why they think their dad is a Super Daddy, we will do a directed draw of their dads as super dads in the framed box.

Fun on the Farm

Hi Y'all!
Sorry we have not posted in so long! We were so busy getting ready for Open House this week, but now that it is over we can breathe a little! Two more weeks of school to go and boy are we ready for summer vacation!

We had so much fun with our Farm Theme . . . usually we do a Zoo/Habitat theme this time of year, but wanted to change it up and try something different. We will be working on putting together a Farm Theme Pack for sale this summer, but in the meantime here are some pictures of some of our projects! More posts to come!
