We Love This Columbus Day Hat!

We wanted to try making a different hat for Columbus Day from what we usually make.  We just blew up a few of the blacklines from our The Ocean Blue Columbus Theme Book to make this really cute hat! Can't wait for the kids to wear them home on Monday!

The waves were pre-traced. The kids needed to cut out the waves, ship and two masts. The rest is assembled by an adult. The mast is a straw. We just cut two tiny slots into the top and bottom of each sail and pushed the straw through. The straw mast is then taped to the back of the ship. The ship is added to the ocean with a brad. Using a brad allows the ship to rock back and forth in the ocean.
